New Shore: A Journey from Vietnam to America
My photography explores culture, community, and connection through my experience as a Vietnamese American immigrant growing up in San Jose. Shaped by histories of migration and resilience within the Vietnamese diaspora, my work reflects both personal memory and broader immigrant experiences in the Bay Area.
Vietnamese American identity is preserved and transformed across generations, documenting cultural traditions, everyday life, and community gatherings. Rooted in long-term relationships and trust, my practice allows me to create intimate images that honor lived experience and elevate underrepresented voices.
Using the cyanotype process—a historical photographic printing technique that produces deep blue images—I symbolize courage and confidence. The color blue embodies resilience, hope, and the determination to move forward, both for ourselves and for future generations. This work stands as my mission to honor, preserve, and share our collective immigrant experience.
